Every Smile Is Designed Around a Face
Most people come to a consultation thinking they already know what they want. Whiter. Straighter. More even. Those are goals, not a plan. The plan starts with the face.
At Smile On Nashville, every case begins with photography. We look at lip position, facial symmetry, tooth proportions, and how the smile fits the whole picture. A tooth that looks off on its own might actually need its neighbor adjusted, not the tooth itself.
This is the conservative approach to cosmetic dentistry. The smile gets designed around the face, not the other way around. And because PERL veneers are digitally designed, we can preview and refine the result before anything is placed.
The cases below show that process in action. Each one is different. Each decision had a reason.
Printed PERL Veneers
Custom cosmetic restorations created through a digital printed workflow at Smile On Nashville. They improve smile shape, color, symmetry, and proportion while preserving as much natural tooth structure as possible.
The Featured Case
This case is a clear example of what conservative digital smile design looks like in practice.
What Changed and Why
This case was not just about whiter teeth. Four things were addressed at the design stage:
- Smile width. The original smile showed a narrow visible zone. The design brightened and reshaped the visible teeth to fill the dark space at the sides of the smile, without overextending the natural arch.
- Edge symmetry. The biting edges of the front teeth were not uniform. The design corrected their visual line so the smile reads as level and intentional rather than worn.
- Tooth shape. Several teeth read short and flat in the smile. The printed veneers restored a fuller length-to-width ratio, giving each tooth its own natural silhouette.
- Color balance. Rather than the whitest possible shade, the color was chosen to complement skin tone and look bright but natural in person and in photographs.
This case was not just about whiter teeth. We improved smile width, edge symmetry, tooth shape, color balance, and overall facial harmony.

The Design Decisions Behind Every Case
A before and after photo tells you what changed. It does not tell you why. Here is how the design thinking actually works.
Smile Width
A smile can look narrow even when the teeth are healthy. Improving the shape and brightness of the side teeth widens the visible smile without adding anything that does not belong.
Edge Symmetry
The biting edges of the front teeth create a visual line. When it is uneven, the smile looks aged or accidental. Correcting it makes the smile read as intentional and healthy.
Tooth Shape
Worn teeth lose their youthful length-to-width ratio and look flat. Restoring that ratio gives each tooth its own silhouette again, so the result looks natural.
Facial Balance
The right shade is the one that looks bright next to your face, not bright on its own. We pick color the way a portrait artist would: relative to everything around it.
Common Patterns We Solve
Most patients come in with one of these concerns. PERL addresses all of them with a conservative, digital-first approach.
Worn Edges
Years of use flatten the front teeth and the smile looks tired. Printed veneers bring back the edge shape.
Small or Short Teeth
Digital design finds the right proportions for your face. The veneers add the volume without aggressive prep.
Spacing
Small gaps between teeth can be closed or minimized as part of a full smile design.
Discoloration
Some staining does not respond to whitening. Veneer placement and color matching can.
Uneven Proportions
When teeth differ in size, shape, or color, the smile reads as disorganized. One design file makes the whole arch cohesive.
Narrow Smile
Often a proportion issue, not a structural one. Design-led placement widens the visible smile zone.
